Alabama Republican Primary Legislature races

There are 105 Alabama House of Representatives seats and 35 state Senate seats. There were a number of Republican incumbents defeated in primary contests in the May 19 Republican primary. Other incumbents survived fierce primary challenges.

In State Senate District 4, J.R. Bowling lost in his primary challenge of Senate President Pro Tempore Garlan Gudger (Cullman). Bowling received 8,432 votes (35.35%) while Sen. Gudger got 15,422 (64.65%).

In Senate District 10 incumbent Senator Andrew Jones (Centre) fought off a fierce challenge from Amy Dozier Minton. Jones received just 8,308 votes (53.83%) to Minton's 7,127 (46.17%).

In Senate District 13 incumbent Randy Price (Opelika) defeated former Senator Gerald Dial. Price received 11,457 votes (62.15%) while Dial only got 6,976 votes (37.85%).

In Senate District 15 challenger Scott Ortis unseated incumbent Senator Dan Roberts (Mountain Brooks). Ortis received 8,300 votes (52%) while Roberts had 7,643 votes (48%).

In State Senate District 16 J.T. "Jabo" Waggoner (Vestavia Hills - the longest serving member of the Alabama Legislature) survived a fierce primary battle from Nate Carlson. Waggoner had 7,695 votes (54.13%), while Carlson had 6,522 (45.87%).

In Senate District 22 challenger Terry L. Waters unseat incumbent Senator Greg Albritton (Atmore). Waters had 9,084 votes (52.11%). Albritton had 9,084 votes (47.89%).

In Senate District 27 incumbent Jay Hovey (Auburn) defeated a challenge from Doug Cannon. Hovey received 10,933 votes (69.9%). Cannon got 4,936 votes 31.1%.

In Senate District 29 incumbent Donnie Chesteen (Dothan) bested challengers Zachary Hurst and Val Glasgow Paul. Chesteen got 14,068 votes (85%). Hurst had 1,952 votes (11.79%) and Paul 530 (3.2%).

In Senate District 32 incumbent Chris Elliott easily bested challenger Mike Vandenheuvel. Elliott had 14,561 votes (72.78%). Vandenheuvel 5,455 (27.22%).

In Senate District 34 former Senator Rusty Glozer won with 7,187 votes (54.55%) over Doug Harwell 5,987 (45.45%).

In GOP Alabama House Races

In HD Challenger Maurice McCaney 2,907 (59.24%) bested incumbent Phillip Pettus 2000 (40.76%).

In HD8 Patrick Johnson 2,317 (66.43%) beat Kevin Davenport 1,171 (33.57%).

In HD13 incumbent Rep. Greg Barnes was unseated by Mike Elliott 4,312 (42.33%) to 5,875 (57.67%).

In HD17 Phil Segraves is in a runoff with Michael Beck. Segraves had 3.616 votes (49.73%), Beck 1,935 (26.61%), and Kevin Bradford 1,720 (23.66%).

HD37 John Jacobs 2,766 (34.73%) will be in a runoff with Jeff Monroe 3,050 (38.29%). Donna Bailey McKay had 2,149 votes (26.98%).

HD40 incumbent Chad Robertson won with 3,480 votes (54.39% over challengers. Kaycee Cavender 1,445 (22.59%), Bill Lester 506 (7.91%), & Bill McAdams 967 (15.11%)

HD45 incumbent Susan Dubose 4,169 (80.65%) defeated John Dawson 1,000 (19.35%).

HD48 incumbent Jim Carns 2,282 (37.87%) lost to challenger Lloyd Peoples 3,365 (55.84%). William Wentowski received 379 votes (6.29%).

HD50 Bill Morris 3,413 (69.74%) over Bryan K. Newell 1,481 (30.26%).

HD65 John Knapp 4,270 (57.8%) defeated Dee Ann Campbell 3,118 (42.2%).

HD85 incumbent Rick Rehm beat David Money 2,528 (55.61%) to 2,018 (44.39%).

HD91 Jody Linton beat Rod Morgan 3,262 (62.15%) to 1,987 (37.85%).

HD93 incumbent Steve Clouse defeated "Stormin" Norman Horton3,394 (72.41%) to 1,293 (27.59%).

HD95 incumbent Frances Holk-Jones is in a runoff with Joe Freeman 3,225 (42.41%) to 2,933 (38.57%). Elijah Davidson had 1,446 votes (19.02%).

HD96 challenger Danielle Duggar defeated incumbent Matt Simpson 2,951 (51.37%) to 2,294 (48.63%).

HD101 incumbent Chris Pringle defeated Tim Manning 3,834 (86%) to 622 (14%).

The primary runoff elections will be on Tuesday, June 16.

The general election will be on Tuesday, November 3.
