Deadly Domestic Violence Incident in Baldwin County Leaves Mother Dead, Father Critically Injured

A tragic domestic violence incident in Baldwin County, just east of Mobile, has left a mother dead and her husband critically injured after their 17‑year‑old son allegedly stabbed both parents during a Sunday night dispute.

What Happened

Authorities say the teen attacked his parents, Samantha Baker, 37, and Lance Baker, 46, inside their Belforest community home following an argument over disciplinary issues. The violence spilled outside, where neighbors witnessed Lance-covered in blood-running door‑to‑door pleading for help and shouting that he didn't want to die.

Samantha Baker, a local realtor and U.S. Army Reserve veteran, died at the scene. Lance Baker, also a decorated Army Reserve officer serving as a battalion commander in Mobile, suffered multiple stab wounds and was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.

The Crime Scene

Investigators described the scene as stretching across half a block, with evidence found in multiple yards. Neighbors reported hearing the attack unfold on home security cameras, including Lance's desperate cries for help.

After the stabbing, the teen allegedly barricaded himself inside the home and called 911. Deputies arrested him at the scene.

Charges and Legal Action

The 17‑year‑old suspect is being charged as an adult with murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors requested a high bond, citing concerns that he poses a danger to himself and the public. He was ordered held on a $1 million bond following his arraignment.

Officials emphasized that the attack appears to be an isolated domestic incident that escalated out of control.

Community Impact

The Belforest community remains shaken. Neighbors described the horror of witnessing Lance's struggle for survival and the shock of such violence occurring within a well‑regarded military family.

This tragedy highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence in Alabama communities and the unpredictable nature of family disputes that escalate into deadly encounters.
