Just 10.3% of Alabamians voted in the primary runoff elections

Voters went to the polls on June 16 to pick the Republican and Democratic nominees for over a dozen major offices. The big winners were John Wahl, Barry Moore, Katherine Green Robertson, Corey Hill, and Everett Wess. They and the other nominees now advances to the November 3 general election. Just 10.3 percent of Alabama voters participated in the primary runoffs despite millions of dollars being spent by the major campaigns to motivate people to come to the polls.

In the race for Lieutenant Governor former Republican Party Chairman John Wahl won the GOP nomination with 175,724 votes (56.99%) over Secretary of State Wes Allen with 132,625 votes (43.01%).

In the race for U.S. Senate Congressman Barry Moore (Enterprise) won the Republican nomination with 173,418 votes (55.80%) over Jared Hudson's 137,340 votes (44.20%). The total votes cast were 310,758 – just

In the race for Attorney General the Republican nomination went to Katherine Robertson with 168,424 votes (55.07%). Jay Mitchell received 137,412 votes (44.93%)

The Republican Commissioner of Agriculture & Industries nomination went to Corey Hill who had 158,033 votes (53.30%) to Christina Woerner McInnis with 138,468 votes (46.70%).

The political comeback of the year went to Jim "Zig" Zeigler in the Public Service Commission, Place 2 (Republican) race who unseated incumbent Chris Beeker III 152,633 votes (51.34%) to 144,640 votes (48.66%).

In the race for State Board of Education, District 8 (Republican) Emily Jones won out with 18,629 votes (53.55%) over William Matthews - 16,162 votes (46.45%).

State Representative District 95 (REP) incumbent Francis Holk-Jones defeated Joe Freeman 3,109 votes (52.29%) to 2,837 votes (47.71%).

State Representative District 17 (REP) was won by Phil Segraves 3,419 (64.28%) to Micheal Beck 1,900 votes (35.72%).

State Representative District 37 (REP) Jeff Monroe 3,751 votes (62.65%) to John Jacobs 1,640 votes (37.35%).

Circuit Court Judge, 19th Judicial Circuit, Place 5 (REP) was won by Carol Cook Carter - 9,044 votes (52.18%) over Bradley Earl Ekdahl - 8,288 votes (47.82%).

The Alabama De Alabama Democratic Primary Runoff had even poorer turnout than in the Republican with just 92,008 voters bothering to show up in the U.S. Senate (Democratic) race. Attorney Everett Wess won with 50,229 votes (54.59%) over Dakarai Larriett with 41,779 votes (45.41%). Wess and Moore will face off in the general election on November 3.

In U.S. House - District 5 (Democratic) Andrew Sneed won with 16,677 votes (78.39%) over Candice Dollar Duvieilh with just 4,597 votes (21.61%). Sneed will face incumbent Dale Strong (R) in the general election.

In State Senate - District 2 Rudolph Valentino Drake won the Democratic nomination with 3,146 votes (53.49%) over Alex House with 2,736 votes (46.51%).

State House - District 52 (Democratic) GiGi Hayes won with 2,127 votes (74.89%) over LaTanya Millhouse 73 votes (25.11%).

State House - District 82 (Democratic) incumbent Pebblin W. Warren 1,880 votes (61.48%) defeated Sidney "Doc" Brown 1,177 (38.52%).

Congressional Districts 1, 2, 6, and 7 will have special primaries on August 11. The general election will be on November 3.
