Katie Britt joins Common Ground with Bret Baier

July 29, 2026 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Alabama) was on Fox News's Common Ground with Bret Baier and Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-New Hampshire).

Senator Britt has cosponsored the late Senator Lindsey Graham's proposed sanctions bill on Russia. She praised President Trump's leadership in holding Putin accountable for Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. She also praised President Trump for his war on Iran citing its murderous 47-year regime. She also reflected on the life and legacy of Sen. Graham and the importance of passing new tougher sanctions on Russia as well as the Iran Act of 2026.

"I appreciate President Trump's leadership on this, knowing that it's time to end this war, and we need to drive Putin to the table," Sen. Britt said on forcing Putin to give up his quest to conquer Ukraine. "This gives President Trump the flexibility and the economic firepower he needs to actually achieve that. We talk about peace through strength all the time. To me, this is the definition of that. [Lindsey Graham] had been talking about this for a year and a half, nonstop working with Senator Blumenthal ... Senator Shaheen, Senator Wicker and others building the coalition that was needed."

Sen. Britt said that it is long past time that the U.S. held Iran accountable:

"It is my opinion that this was 47 years too late in taking action," said Britt. "I appreciate President Trump holding Iran accountable. He clearly wants resolution to this, obviously was willing to enter into the MOU. It was Iran that chose to walk away from that. And President Trump has said ... we're not going to let that happen. We're going to hold you accountable. They have had a murderous regime for 47 years that has enacted terror on Americans and our allies abroad. That must come to an end. So, I think that we've made significant strides in diminishing their capabilities. I appreciate President Trump's leadership on that. And ultimately, we want to make sure that there is a peaceful resolution to that."

Sen. Britt reflected on finishing Senator Graham's foreign policy objectives.

"[After] losing giants like ... Lindsey Graham ... Senator Shaheen's willingness to continue to work across the aisle, it's essential to get things done," said Sen. Britt. "I've said time and time again, if you share a goal with someone on the other side of the aisle, you have a duty to the people you serve to get in a room and to figure out a pathway forward. That's what Lindsey Graham did each and every day. He put the people of South Carolina (and) this country in the best and strongest position possible."

Senator Shaheen spoke against President Trump's cuts to USAID programs.

"Taking a chainsaw to all of our foreign assistance programs over a weekend and eliminating 84% of them is not a strategic and thoughtful approach to how we need to evaluate what's working and what's not working," Shaheen said.

Senator Katie Britt was elected in 2022. She previously headed the Business Council of Alabama, was a Montgomery area attorney, and Chief of Staff for former Senator Richard Shelby. She is a native of Enterprise and lives in Montgomery with her husband, Wesley, and their two children.
