Follow the Money: Rep. Rhett Marquis Faces Scrutiny Over Liberal Donor Ties and Tax Record

Representative Rhett Marquis publicly projects himself as a staunch conservative Republican, yet a closer look at his campaign ledger reveals a troubling reliance on financial backing from liberal Democrats-most notably Tuscaloosa-based real estate agent Chase Adcox.

Adcox boasts a long, well-documented history of bankrolling leftist political candidates. His partisan trail dates back to 2008, when he funneled funds into then-Illinois Senator Barack Obama's historic presidential campaign. Adcox's pattern of supporting figures antithetical to traditional conservative values did not stop at the national level. He has consistently doled out financial contributions to high-profile establishment and left-leaning figures, including former U.S. Senator Doug Jones-who is subsequently the 2026 Democratic nominee for governor-alongside Richard Shelby Democrat R.I.N.O. Senator Katie Britt.

It comes as little surprise that Britt is now backing Marquis with such unbridled intensity. When weighing this deep network of progressive financial support against Marquis's own legislative record, a clear and damaging picture emerges. Marquis has a history of championing major tax hikes on everyday citizens, including his pivotal vote for the 2019 gas tax that currently forces Alabama motorists to shell out an extra $0.31 for every single gallon. Layer that tax burden on top of his legislative push for escalating tag revenues down in Coffee County, and voters are left facing an unavoidable question: If he is elected to Congress, exactly what punishing tax increases does Marquis plan to unleash on United States citizens next?
