Some of you that read this article will still be waiting to vote and see where our future will go or wonder where it will go and there are others that will read this after the election. In the centuries since its creation, Magna Carta has become one of the most enduring symbols of liberty and the rule of law. The American Bar Association Standing Committee on the Law Library of Congress and the Law Library of Congress have selected the Heflin-Torbert Judicial Building in Montgomery, Alabama, to host the exhibit "Magna Carta: Enduring Legacy 1215-2015." The Supreme Court of Alabama,...

As more details surface about the Obama Administration’s decision to pay Iran $1.7 billion in settlement money, arguments that it was anything less than an ill-conceived ransom deal are becoming pretty flimsy. In January, President Obama announced the United States had reached a settlement with Iran over a decades-long arms deal dispute, in which $1.7 billion would be transferred from a Treasury fund set up to cover court judgments and settlements. Even though the deal directly coincided with Ir...

Before I started my career as a counselor, I found it difficult to communicate with others what I thought and felt. At that time in my life self help books gave me a safe environment in which I could read a book and be uplifted from my point of view with whatever the problem was. I often read spiritual based self-help books because I felt that God had to be part of positive change. It is not to say that others books that have no spiritual basis are not helpful, but that is what I connected to....

Halloween has become an issue among Christians. Long considered harmless fun, many are now questioning its history, nature, influence and fruit. The revitalization of Satanism and Witchcraft and their obvious association with Halloween has caused Christians to wonder whether they should participate in it at all. There is no denying the bizarre and occultic nature of Halloween decorum (certainly witches, devils, ghouls, monsters, vampires and ghosts are not Christian in character!). But in spite of that, some Christians defend their...
The Court of the Judiciary (COJ) issued a decision on the charges against Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore. The Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) requested that he be removed from the bench. Under the COJ rules, removal requires a unanimous 9-0 vote by the members of the COJ, which is made up of judges, a lawyer and laypeople. Absent a 9-0 unanimous vote, the COJ cannot remove a judge from the bench. But in an unbelievable violation of the law, the COJ suspended without pay Chief Justice Moore for the remainder of his term, which...

There are people who make a living by separating good, honest, hard-working, trusting people from their hard earned money. Please be aware of these SCAMS! There is not a Police Department or Sheriff's Office around that will call you on the phone and tell you that there is a warrant for your arrest, and you can get out of it by going to the store and buying credit or gift cards. That is NOT how the Judicial System in Alabama works. If someone is asking for payment in Green Dot Cards, iTunes...

If you have ever been a parent, do you remember those conversations you wish you didn't have to have? Maybe it was about abusing a privilege, an accident in the car, failing grades in college or some other unanticipated circumstance of life. I never looked forward to any of them and upon reflection, am sure neither did my parents when it fell to their place to speak to me. The subject of evil is one of those topics none of us really look forward to talking about either. How much more enjoyable i...

In boxing it is said, "To be the champ, you've got to beat the champ." In Alabama, coal is the champion of our natural resources. There is enough coal in our soil to produce electricity for hundreds of years. But, some people don't want us to do that. They want us to use only the sun or wind to produce electricity. We cannot and should not, however, abandon coal, our greatest and most reliable natural resource. Many of the wonderful Alabama citizens currently working in coal mines are...

Deborah Love, Executive Director, Eagle Forum of Alabama In the wake of the terror attack this weekend in Orlando, our hearts go out to the family and friends who lost their loved ones. Our prayers and thoughts will continue to remain with those injured as well as their family and friends. The facts show that this was an act of terrorism, an act of intolerance and an act of disgusting violence. What should unite all of us all no matter what our perspectives or backgrounds may be is our deep...

The older you get the more you realize that old adages you heard as a child are true. There is a political maxim that says, “power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” It could very aptly be applied to the Mike Hubbard saga. Mike Hubbard was born and raised in north Georgia. He went to college at the University of Georgia and majored in journalism and landed a job in the Bulldog Sports Information Department. About that time an amazing athlete came from rural Georgia to play foo...
